A new East Midlands Airport hotel is set to be the UK's greenest. The £22 million Radisson Blu Hotel is being built by MAG Developments in partnership with the specialist hotel investment firm Azure Property Group, and is scheduled to open in summer 2011. It has been awarded one of the highest ever BREEAM marks, a widely used method to assess a building’s environmental performance.
The hotel has been awarded a score of 76.17% - well above the BREEAM Excellent benchmark of 70%. The hotel is also compliant with proposed changes to the current part L Building Regulations, which focus on improving buildings’ energy efficiency. The build also incorporates a number of Sustainable Construction Techniques to deliver a BREEAM Excellent facility.
The hotel will be operated by Azure under the Rezidor Hotel Group’s up-market brand, Radisson Blu. It will offer premium facilities including; eight executive suites, a full service restaurant and bar, extensive events and conferencing facilities, high-speed internet access for all guests and meeting delegates; plus full health and leisure facilities including a swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms.
A highly visible and distinctive hotel, the Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport will be located 800 meters from the terminal, be five stories high and is set alongside the M1, the UK’s busiest motorway.
