Passengers evacuated from plane at East Midlands Airport over fire alert
11.12.07
Passengers were evacuated from an aircraft at East Midlands Airport on Sunday night when it was feared there was a fire on board shortly after landing.
The Thomas Cook flight from Lanzarote was reported to be in trouble at about 18:05 as it moved into the airport's docking station. An airport spokeswoman said a warning light in the cockpit indicated there was a fire.
All passengers on the Boeing 757 were evacuated as soon as the plane came to a standstill. Fire crews at the airport were called and firefighters from Leicestershire were also alerted, but none were needed.
The spokeswoman for the airline said all passengers left the plane via the stairs and the emergency inflatable slides were not used. A search was carried out and there was no sign of a fire. An investigation is under way to find what caused the alert.
