East Midlands Airport parking firm fined

A firm which promised secure airport parking but left cars in the open has been fined £20,000. Loughborough Magistrates Court heard Prestige Parking charged passengers at East Midlands Airport extra to leave cars in its secure indoor compound.
However, many of the cars were in fact left outdoors and in one case a £30,000 Jaguar was wrecked while being moved from a car park. The company and boss Kawaljeet Singh Mangat pleaded guilty to eight charges under the Trade Descriptions Act.
Officers from Leicestershire Trading Standards Service carried out an investigation after receiving complaints from Leicestershire Constabulary. The investigation included an undercover operation which involved three vehicles being booked for indoor parking. In the event, two cars were parked outside.
The firm were also found to be displaying the nationally recognised Park Mark logo at their airport car park, when they had lost their right to do so. They were fined a total of £20,000, and ordered to pay costs of £2,239.
