Boom in fake goods at East Midlands Airport

More than £1.6 million worth of counterfeit goods have been seized in four months by staff at East Midlands Airport. Thousands of fake goods, including counterfeit Viagra pills, imitation hair straighteners and tobacco have been seized by UK Border Agency staff at the airport.
The value of counterfeit goods seized by officers between April 1 and the end of July is already the same as they had seized in the whole of the previous 12 months. Border staff say that the recession has created a boom in the counterfeit market, with people on the lookout for a bargain but not always getting what they expect.
