The largest plane ever built landed at East Midlands Airport yesterday morning and will stay at least until today.
About 20 plane spotters watched from the airport's aeropark as the giant Antonov 225 landed. Weighing around 640 tonnes, without payload, the aircraft has a wingspan of 290ft and is 59ft high. It can carry 250,000kg of weight.
The plane was commissioned to deliver a generator to the airport by international couriers DHL and is now being refuelled. It is expected to remain at the airport for at least 24 hours. Its departure time is not yet known.
