East Midlands Airport train link bus axed
05.04.10
A bus service linking East Midlands Parkway train station and East Midlands Airport has been axed following a one-year trial, the Evening Post reports The Railink service was operated by a 16-seater minibus which ran seven days a week, every 30 minutes each way. It was funded by East Midlands Trains, the airport and local councils after the Parkway opened early last year. However, the bus service is to be replaced with taxis in conjunction with local firm Village Cars.
The new taxi service will cost £3 per journey and must be booked at least 12 hours in advance via eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/taxi or by calling Village Cars direct on 01332 706020 to guarantee the best price. The bus service used to cost £2 for a single and £3 return for adults and £1 single or £1.50 return for children.
A spokeswoman for East Midlands Trains said: ‘The bus ran every 30 minutes from each end and throughout a lot of the day it was running empty. The new improved service provides a fast, direct and easy connection to the airport. The new shared taxi service will offer more flexible operating times, which will mean less waiting for passengers and a greener option to the previous Railink service, with fewer wasted bus journeys.'
