East Midlands Airport axe security staff
05.01.10
Up to 30 security staff at East Midlands Airport are to be laid off due to falling passenger numbers. The decision comes days after Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced plans to step up airport security checks with the introduction of full body scanners.
G4S Aviation Services, the firm that employs East Midlands Airport security staff, said less flights were operating from the airport, which was also a factor in the decision. A spokesman for the airport said the reduction will not affect passenger safety. Unite said the it was trying to ensure as few job losses as possible, but up to 30 staff could go.
