MP raises East Midlands Airport noise plan concerns
03.10.09
MP Mark Todd has criticised East Midlands Airport's plans to reduce noise from planes, the Burton Mail reports.
The EU environmental noise directive and UK regulation require airports with more than 50,000 movements per year to produce a Noise Action Plan (NAP). The airport has produced a draft NAP that details the current noise impact of the airport’s operations and the measures to mitigate this. The consultation period ends on October 21.
However, Mr Todd said that the airport’s response is ‘poor’ and ‘merely confirms the airport’s master plan published three years ago’. The South Derbyshire MP added that the new proposals do not go far enough to comply with the directive and there is no local accountability.
