Durham Tees Valley Airport bosses seek new airlines
17.09.06
Representatives from Durham Tees Valley Airport will try to persuade more airlines to come to the region today to replace business lost by the pull-out of a low-cost operator, the Northern Echo reports. The news comes as the BBC reports that Millions of pounds of public money is being made available for an airport to attract new airlines after a low-cost carrier's decision to pull out.
No-frills carrier bmibaby announced plans on Thursday to drop all its routes from Durham Tees Valley. Airport boss Hugh Lang said he was confident of filling the hole left by the airline. He has flown to Dubai to attend a two-day sales event that could help attract new routes to the region.
Mr Lang, along with representatives from regional development agency One NorthEast will explain the region's benefits to airlines to try to attract new routes and aircraft bases. One NorthEast has worked with the regional airport to help them attract tourism and business routes, through its £4m route development project.
