Durham Tees Valley Airport cabbies seek legal advice
13.10.08
Taxi drivers are to take legal advice in their dispute with Durham Tees Valley Airport over a contract for pick-ups, the Northern Echo reports. Cabbies at the airport say their business was given to a rival firm, and they were only told the night before the new arrangement started. 16 independent taxi drivers could be affected.
The drivers held a protest at the airport yesterday, and plan to meet with legal advisors from the GMB union next week to challenge the decision. One told the newspaper: ‘We are taking legal advice and will be meeting with our union solicitor next week. In our contract it says we need 28 days' notice, but they only gave us seven-and-a-half hours.'
