Durham Tees Valley Airport facelift to start
11.01.06
A £1.3m scheme to revamp the frontage of Durham Tees Valley Airport terminal is due to begin today. It is the latest phase of an ongoing upgrade of facilities at the airport, which has reported a passenger increase of more than 13% in 2005.
Construction work on the frontage is expected to last 16 weeks. During this time, there will be some changes in passenger access arrangements to the terminal and vehicle drop-off points.
Hugh Lang, the airport's managing director, said: 'As the increase in passengers for last year demonstrates, Durham Tees Valley is going from strength to strength but our customers obviously expect, and deserve, the best possible experience when they use the airport.'
'We have already made a big difference with the construction of the new access road and the expansion and improvements to our airport parking facilities. The new look to the frontage, using a brushed steel effect and modern lighting, will add to the 21st-century image we want to promote for the airport.'
Bosses hope that passenger numbers in 2006 will hit one million, rising to three million in the next decade, with about 2,500 new jobs created.
