Government backs Durham Tees Valley Airport expansion

Plans for a business park and leisure facilities at Durham Tees Valley Airport have been given the go-ahead by the government. An airport spokesman said the decision would enable Darlington Council to give approval for the proposals.
An application has been submitted to build a business park, aiprort hotel, pub and restaurant at the airport. The plans were put before the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Ruth Kelly, but she has decided not to 'call in' the proposals for a review at central Government level.
The plans are the second phase of a long-term scheme to expand and develop the airport. An application for the expansion of the terminal, additional aircraft stands, a new taxiway and apron and cargo facilities was recently approved by Darlington and Stockton councils.
