Improved timings for Heathrow - Durham Tees Valley Airport link welcomed

Improved timings for Durham Tees Valley Airport’s three times daily air link to Heathrow have been welcomed by the airport's chief Hugh Lang. But he has warned that the campaign to protect in the long term the air link with the capital must continue.
bmi announced improved timings for its services between Durham Tees Valley and Heathrow Airport yesterday. The news comes the same week that fourteen MPs have signed a Commons motion expressing concern that a significant increase in Heathrow landing charges from April could make it difficult for the airline to continue to operate the only London service from Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Mr Lang, Durham Tees Valley Airport’s managing director, said: 'The announcement from bmi, making clear its commitment to maintain - and indeed improve - its service between Durham Tees Valley and Heathrow for the coming summer programme is very good news. It reflects the long-standing and very positive relationships we have enjoyed with the airline over many years.'
'The changes in the timetable, which will come into effect from the end of March, will be particularly good news for the many business passengers using the service. It will mean an earlier arrival into London in the morning and later departures from Heathrow for both the afternoon and evening flights.'
bmi did, however, scrap one daily flight between Heathrow and Leeds Bradford, and cancel its flights between the London airport and Inverness. Mr Lang is therefore keen that the campaign to keep the flights continues.
