Durham Tees Valley airport reveals passenger boost

Durham Tees Valley Airport has reported the busiest month in its history in August. The big jump in passenger numbers is attributed to new scheduled services by low fares airline bmibaby, which saw a record month of over 23,000 passengers.
The County Durham airport controversially changed its name from Teesside International to Durham Tees Valley last year, but airport bosses say the name change has not dented passenger numbers, with 105,000 passing through its doors during August - a 16% annual increase. Flights for 'traditional summer holidays' saw a 10% increase during August compared to the same period last year.
Mark Clarkson, business development manager at Durham Tees Valley Airport said: '2005 is proving to be our busiest year ever and we are working hard to continue this impressive growth over the coming months.' The airport said it is to unveil new services to the Costa Dorada area of Spain, to Turkey and to Bulgaria later in the year.
