Derry Airport strike confirmed
12.07.08
Derry Airport will be closed next Wednesday and Thursday (July 16 and 17) after talks over a pay dispute collapsed, the BBC reports. The strike is part of Unite union's UK-wide industrial action, and they are insisting on an all member strike.
Derry City Council had called on the union Unite to change its decision to strike at the City of Derry Airport. The council had hoped to secure an exemption for airport staff from the strike. A spokesperson for Derry City Council told the BBC they were ‘disappointed that an agreement could not be reached’.
Services will be suspended from midnight on Tuesday 15 July until midnight on Thursday 17 July. Passengers will be able to access updates on a regular basis through the airport website.
