Strike threat at Derry Airport
05.07.08
Derry Airport may be forced to close on July 16 and 17 if workers walk out as planned in a dispute over pay, the BBC reports. Unions representing firefighters, baggage handlers and cleaners were urged by Derry City Council to exempt their members from the UK-wide strike.
Joe Miller, chairman of the Airport Committee said talks are continuing to try to reach a resolution. He said: ‘If there's no firefighters, a plane would simply not be allowed to land or take off.'
