Ryanair 'consider' flights from Carlisle Airport
15.07.06
The head of UK sales at Ryanair said this week that the airline would consider setting up at Carlisle Airport, if its new owners went ahead with rebuilding plans.
Carlisle Airport was recently bought by Andrew Tinkler, the chairman of Eddie Stobart, the Cumbrian-based haulage firm, who has outlined ambitious plans for the runway and surrounding land. He hopes to build an international standard terminal building and either improve the current runway so it can handle commercial jets, or build a completely new one and 'unlock the airport's potential'.
Speaking to the Carlisle News and Star, Karl Hogstadius said that before a decision is made on any airport its infrastructure and pricing arrangements had to be considered. He said: 'We also look at the potential in the catchment area surrounding the airport. If Carlisle can offer the right things, we would consider talking with them.'
