Airline plans Guernsey - Cardiff Airport flights
11.05.06
There could be flights between Guernsey and Cardiff for the first time in more than a decade, after Channel Island airline Blue Islands (formerly Rockhopper) has applied to operate the route on behalf its owner, Healthspan Leisure.
Although it will be used primarily to bring in visitors to Healthspan's hotels in Guernsey and Alderney, other passengers will also be able to use the service. The airline will find out in two weeks if its application has been successful.
Blue Islands' managing director, Paul Sabin, expects the route will be attractive to holidaymakers. 'The Cardiff-Guernsey link will be a welcome addition to the selection of charter routes that Blue Islands is able to operate for Healthspan Leisure customers,' he said.
The new service will operate in addition to the existing charter routes to Biggin Hill and Oxford for which Blue Islands has already received permission. The airline believes that adding Cardiff to that list will increase the choice of departure airports available to Healthspan Leisure customers, making it easier for holidaymakers to travel to the islands.
A start date for the new route is still to be confirmed. The hotels are expected to open early next month, so it is likely that it would be around the same time.
