Victory for Cardiff Airport road protesters
08.02.07
Villagers in the Vale of Glamorgan are celebrating a Government climbdown over plans to upgrade roads to Cardiff Airport.
The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) wanted to trunk the A48 from Culverhouse Cross to Sycamore Cross, and parts of three roads leading from there to the airport. This would have transferred responsibility for the roads from the local council to the WAG.
However, after a public inquiry, Andrew Davies, the Minister responsible for transport networks, has conceded the roads should not be trunked. Instead, he has brought forward a scheme to improve road access from the M4 to the airport.
