MP objects to Bristol Airport expansion plans

The MP for Woodspring has written to the leader of North Somerset Council objecting to the expansion of Bristol Airport unless traffic problems near the terminal are dealt with. Bristol24-7, reports that Dr Liam Fox said that transport improvements must be made before any expansion of the airport is allowed.
Transport issues, such as heavy traffic on roads through villages, were already a major concern, he said. With passenger numbers forecast to grow from 6 to 10 million during the next decade, the Conservative MP added it was a ‘mystery’ how these extra passengers would reach the airport without increasing the problem.
The letter comes after it emerged that a decision on the £150 million expansion plans for BIA will be made at a special council meeting in March. North Somerset Council’s North Area committee is holding a one-off meeting to decide on the proposals on Wednesday, March 3, at its Weston offices.
