New machine to track Bristol Airport noise
23.12.07
New machines are to be introduced at Bristol Airport to enable noise complaints to be dealt with more efficiently. The tracking monitors, which will be introduced next year, will enable staff to pinpoint which aircraft were flying where at exactly what time.
The new tracking equipment will mean that, if a resident living nearby makes a complaint about the noise coming from planes flying overhead, the exact aircraft making the noise can be identified using that person's postcode and the time it was seen.
An airport spokesperson said: 'This technology means that airlines can be notified if they veer off a designated flight path and subsequently disturb residents.' At other airports it is also used to fine airlines who do not follow flight paths, with the money raised donated to local charities.
