Bristol Airport expansion 'will help passengers and environment'
22.09.10
Bristol Airport has highlighted the benefits of a planned £150m expansion, which was given the go-ahead last week when the Secretary of state decided not to call in a planning application to develop the airport. Robin Sinclair, chief executive officer of the airport, said the decision is a 'major step in the right direction'.
He said: 'Approval of these proposals recognises the airport's vital contribution to regional prosperity, while also ensuring that environmental considerations are addressed. The plans provide a blueprint for the long-term development of Bristol Airport. They will allow us to provide more services from Bristol, which will reduce car journeys to other airports, and also grow inbound tourism to the south-west.'
The plans include expanded car parking, a larger terminal and an airport hotel.
