Passengers down 2.7% at Bristol Airport
20.06.07
Total passengers were down 2.7% at Bristol Airport in May, with last year's figure boosted by around 10,000 passengers using the airport to travel to the Heineken Cup final. Removing these passengers from the comparative figures, passengers would still have fallen, but only by around 0.8%.
Domestic traffic was 8.7% lower, largely as a result of the loss of BA flights after its short haul operation was taken over by Flybe earlier this year, combined with lower load factors on other routes. International traffic was up by 3.4% during the month, but charter traffic fell by 8.6% due to the late start of a number of summer services.
Over the 12 months to the end of May, domestic traffic has fallen by 6.9%, whilst international and charter traffic is up by 11.1% and 0.4% respectively. In total passengers are up 3.8% to 5.7m from 5.4m.
During the month Ryanair announced that it will open its 20th European base at Bristol Airport in November. The budget airline will launch the base with 13 new domestic and international routes.
