Planning officers recommend Bristol Airport expansion approval
19.05.10
Plans to expand Bristol Airport have been recommended for approval by North Somerset Council officers. The council's south area committee voted six to three in support of the £150m scheme but referred the final decision to the main committee. The planning and regulatory committee will consider the application, which has attracted criticism from residents, next Monday.
The planning officers report includes over 60 conditions, including a limit on night flights. Other conditions in the 260-page report are a contribution of more than £5m for local transport improvements and a 10 million cap on the number of passengers using the airport each year.
Any approval of the plans will have to be referred to the secretary of state for communities and local government because there is an element of development in the green belt. This is understood to be an expansion to the airport parking.
