Balloonists take advantage of airspace closure
19.04.10
Hot air balloonists have been been making the most of a ban on air flights, which has allowed them into normally prohibited airspace, the BBC reports. One group of balloons took-off from Ashton Court estate near Bristol over the weekend and flew over Bristol Airport before landing near Blagdon Lake.
Normally pilots would not be allowed to fly close to the airport and they have to liaise with air traffic controllers if they want to climb higher than normal. Pilot Clive Bailey told the news service that he had never known a situation when the balloon's radio was so quiet. He said: ‘It was beautiful, the sky was so clear and there was just three balloons. Although it's bad news for travellers it is really good for us.’
