Bristol Airport expansion plans submitted to council

Plans for the expansion of Bristol Airport have been submitted to North Somerset Council. They include extending the airport terminal, adding more car parking spaces and building new aircraft stands. The plans include extending the size of the current terminal to handle 10 million passengers a year by 2016. The airport claims that 4,000 jobs could be created and £340m injected into the local economy if the scheme is approved.
Robert Sinclair, the airport's chief executive, said: ‘Over the last 6 months we have listened to a wide range of views relating to the development of the airport. In response to requests from the local community, the airport has introduced a new cap on night flights, as well as maintaining the current night noise quota. The airport will also commit to maintaining CO2 emissions at or below 2007 levels with 20% of the additional energy required by the proposed development coming from on-site renewable sources.’
