Bristol Airport backs Government’s tourism drive

Bristol Airport has backed Prime Minister David Cameron's plans to turn Britain into one of the world's top five tourist destinations. Speaking in Hyde Park last week, Mr Cameron announced his intention to remove some of the obstacles that are preventing overseas holidaymakers from visiting the UK. Robert Sinclair, Bristol Airport's chief executive officer, welcomed the news and said that tourism is important in terms of driving growth in the country's regions.
Mr Sinclair said that, because the UK is an island nation, most visitors arrive by air. This is why he believes tourism should be considered when the government launches a consultation on proposed aviation tax changes. He added that
Bristol Airport expects to accommodate more than 1.2 million passengers over the course of July and August, with traffic levels returning to those last seen in 2008.
