An elderly couple have been killed in a car crash near Bristol Airport. An investigation is under way, a fire service spokeswoman said.
Fire crews were called to Cooks Bridle Path in Backwell on Saturday afternoon and found a Ford Escort on its side with two people inside. A man in his 80s was pronounced dead at the scene, and a woman taken by air ambulance to hospital. She later died.
A spokeswoman for Avon Fire and Rescue said: 'At this stage it is unclear what happened and an investigation is now under way.' However it is thought the car hit a post. No other vehicle was involved.
