Council to oppose new Bristol Airport Car Park

Local residents opposed to plans for a new 1200-space Bristol Airport car park on a mushroom farm have received a boost from their local parish council. Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council has agreed to write a letter of objection to North Somerset Council in protest against plans.
Bristol Park and Fly wants to use land at Monaghan's Mushroom Farm in Langford to provide an off airport car park with a minibus link for users of Bristol International Airport. The scheme was unveiled at a meeting held by the company's boss and sole employee, Steven Merry, at the site in Stock Lane. Villagers at the meeting raised concerns over light, noise and air pollution.
The parish council's decided unanimously at a planning meeting on Monday to support the residents opposed to the car park. The residents said the proposed development was 'a totally unacceptable intrusion into our rural environment' leading to 'increased traffic, crime and pollution'. They added that the plans could lead to a 'rat race through villages'.
Parish council chairman Chris Sampson said the effects of the proposed development would encroach on the area under the council's jurisdiction. Planning committee chairman Archie Forbes confirmed the council would side with residents and write to the Town Hall.
