Bristol Airport puts duty fee to tender
10.02.09
Bristol Airport has put its duty-free concession out to tender. Expressions of interest will be invited before April 6 for a new concession is due to begin on November 1.
Bristol is the fifth-busiest UK airport outside London, with more than 6m passengers in 2008. It recently announced plans to develop and enhance its facilities to handle 10m passengers a year by 2016. The proposals include extensions to the terminal building, additional airport parking facilities and new aircraft stands. The airport is also working with a developer on a separate planning application for an on-site airport hotel.
Current duty-free operator The Nuance Group has successfully managed the business for the past 10 years, achieving strong year-on-year sales growth. However, the airport is now working with The Design Solution to develop a state-of-the-art new walk-through duty-free shop, creating an enlarged anchor retail outlet in the departure lounge, and sees it as an ideal opportunity to review its duty free operator.
