Nine months for Bristol Airport drug smuggler
07.06.09
A man was jailed for nine months after arriving at Bristol Airport having swallowed packets of cannabis, the Herald Express reports. Lee Clark, 40, of Greenlands Avenue, Paignton, received the prison sentence after pleading guilty to smuggling the drugs at Isleworth Crown Court.
The court heard that Mr Clark was one of three men from Devon who arrived at the airport from Madrid on March 18 having been to Tangiers. Between them, the men had swallowed more than two kilos of the drug, or around 100 packets each. One of the other men has already been jailed for 15 months, whilst the third failed to attend court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Mr Clark is reported to have cancer and told the court that he had got the drug for medical reasons. He had swallowed 98 packages containing 590 grams of cannabis. Judge Hezlett Colgan said : ‘This was importation of cannabis for your own use. You must have known the risk you were running.’
