Emergency landing at Bristol Airport?
07.05.08
A reader tells us that there was an emergency landing at Bristol Airport at 13:45 yesterday, although we have not been able to get official confirmation on this from either the airport or Thomas Cook - the airline involved.
We are told that the landing looked like it started off as a precaution but was upgraded to a full emergency on approach, from the speed of the fire engines headed for the runway. However, the pilot executed a 'text book landing' and the fire engines rapidly cleared the scene. Our reader tells us that the wind was directly down the runway but the aircraft 'seemed to be crabbing on the approach', and it did not appear to use full reverse thrust after landing, indicating engine problems.
It is unclear which Thomas Cook Airlines flight was involved, as the nearest scheduled arrival would be from Palma Mallorca at 12:35. The airline also flies from Bristol to Heraklion, Crete on a Tuesday, with the flight taking off at 13:30, which could have been returning to the airport after a problem on take off, but 13:45 would be too quick if the plane had to dump fuel. If you have any further information, feel free to let us know.
