Bristol Airport car park to give pensions a free ride
06.06.07
Pensioners living in and around Bristol could get a free park and ride service to Bristol Airport, if a new airport parking facility gets the go ahead. As reported last week, airport parking firm Park and Fly want to open a new car park on a mushroom farm near the airport.
According to a report in the Weston Mercury newspaper, if the new car park receives planning permission, it will give free lifts to any elderly person living in a two-mile radius of the new car park.
Steven Merry, managing director (and only employee) of Bristol Park and Fly told the newspaper that the scheme would the carbon footprint caused by people driving to and from the airport. However, Georgie Bigg, a local spokesman for the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, said that Mr Merry should 'look more carefully at the impact of encouraging people to fly from the airport'.
