Baggage weighing machine trail at Bristol Airport
05.04.08
A trial run of an airport baggage weighing machine, which it is hoped will create hundreds of jobs in the North East, got underway at Bristol Airport this week. The machine allows passengers to weigh their bags ahead of check in, with the trail launched in the same week that Trading Standards reported one in five weighing scales were faulty at Gatwick Airport.
The bagweighahead machine will undergo a month-long trial at Bristol Airport with a view to ironing out any difficulties. The machine is to be sited inside airport terminals which would allow travellers to check if their baggage meets weight allowances, with airlines levying heavy fees if they do not.
The debut marks a further milestone in a journey which began five years ago and has seen Tyneside husband and wife entrepreneurs Ged and Carole Stewart invest £50,000 into the venture. Mr Stewart said: ‘We are looking forward to gauging customer reaction and we want to ensure the processes are right.'
