New Bristol Airport taxi deal
04.05.10
Bristol Airport has agreed a new five-year deal with its official on-site taxi firm, Checker Cars. The firm has agreed that its drivers will steer clear of the village of Barrow Gurney whenever possible as part of the deal. It will also invest in a new fleet of cars to service the airport and set up a range of new services.
Other taxi firms operate at the airport but Checker Cars is the only company to have an official contract with the hub. Under the terms of the new deal the firm's drivers will have to sign up to a code of conduct that includes customer service, driving standards and taking into consideration the villages and communities around the airport.
The deal also means drivers will avoid Barrow Gurney - often used as a rat-run for people travelling to the airport from the west of Bristol - whenever possible and also agree to stick to the 20mph speed limit in the village. A new ticket machine is also being installed in the arrivals area so passengers can avoid queues during busy periods.
