New Bristol Airport duty free store opens
03.11.09
Travel retailer WDF started operating the duty-free store at Bristol Airport under the World Duty Free fascia yesterday. The Autogrill-owned company won the seven-and-a-half-year contract to run the duty-free stores at the airport in August, beating competition from previous operator The Nuance Group, Aelia and Harding Brothers.
WDF said: ‘Handing over from the previous evening, a core project team and volunteers from the business worked through the night to change all the systems, install the new temporary signage and marketing materials and completely restock the shelves with about 44,000 units of 5,500 products.’
The Autogrill-owned company will operate a new 1,076sq m (11,581sq ft) walk-through duty-free store, 40% larger than the current store, once redevelopment work started this week is completed in spring 2010. WDF will also open a 61sq m (656sq ft) specialist store called Collection, scheduled to begin trading by the end of 2009, focusing on luxury accessories including handbags, sunglasses, watches and jewellery.
