Blackpool Airport boss to leave
14.06.09
The boss at Blackpool Airport is to leave, just months after he brought in a controversial £10 departure tax on passengers (and free airport parking), the Gazette reports. David Kershaw, who became chief executive at the airport two years ago, is to leave his post.
Airport owners Balfour Beatty said they were ‘very sorry’ to see Mr Kershaw leave and added that the decision was ‘amicable’. In a statement to the Gazette, Mr Kershaw said: ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Blackpool Airport and I'm very proud of what we have achieved in a relatively short period of time.'
‘I remain passionate about the opportunities for growth and success for the airport. In an obviously challenging economic climate, Blackpool International, like many regional airports, has been through a difficult period, but is well positioned to take full advantage of the economic upturn.’
A spokesman for Balfour Beatty said: ‘The decision has been entirely amicable, and as such an official leaving date has yet to be determined. Under David's leadership, the airport has achieved a great deal, and all concerned will be sorry to see him leave.'
