Police hunt after Blackpool plane targeted by laser

Police have launched an investigation after a laser was shone at several planes coming in to land at Blackpool Airport. A laser or bright light was shone in the cockpit area of helicopters and planes that were due to land on the runway.
A call was logged from air traffic control at 22:00 on Monday September 28. Another called was logged at 20:40 on the following night. Police believe the laser was shone from the area of St Leonard's ward in St Annes.
Sgt Greg Laidlow from St Annes Neighbourhood Policing Team said: ‘Shining lasers or bright lights at aircraft can pose a great danger. The consequences of such actions can be catastrophic and the individual responsible needs to be aware of the seriousness of their actions. If convicted for such an offence, individuals can face a prison sentence.’
