Strong demand for new Birmingham – Cyprus flights

Low cost airline Monarch have been stunned by the sale of seats ahead of the first aircraft taking to the skies tomorrow on its new Birmingham Airport - Larnaca route. Almost half of the 22,000 seats allocated for the entire summer programme on the new twice-weekly route have been sold.
Monarch boss Tim Jeans said ‘We have been shocked by the overwhelming demand. The first aircraft doesn’t take off until tomorrow but we have already sold 10,500 seats. Normally we would expect take at least a year to build up a route to that kind of level of sales.'
‘We operate 42 different routes from airports around the country and at the moment this is the number one best seller of any of them even before the first passenger has set foot on an aircraft. This typifies the excellent results we have had from the Birmingham market since we started operating from the region. Monarch will be the largest British operated service to Cyprus this summer.’
Mr Jeans said the demand from Birmingham travellers meant he would seriously consider extending the twice-weekly service to four or five times per week for next summer. He said: ‘Even at a time when people are feeling the pinch it seems a properly targeted service from Birmingham can be outstandingly successful.'
Flights operate each Wednesday and Sunday with fares from £78.99 one way (£140.50 return), including all taxes and web booking discount.
