20,000 sign petition for Birmingham – India flights

Birmingham Airport is urging people to back a campaign to bring back a direct flight between the West Midlands city and India. More than 20,000 people have signed a petition that was delivered this week to the Indian Government to show the strong demand in the Midlands for the return of a direct flight. The airport and city council are now calling for as much support as possible for the ‘Fly India’ campaign.
The airport's chief executive, Paul Kehoe, said it was ‘incredible’ that there were about 350,000 people of Indian origin living within one hour of the airport but there had been no direct flight since October 2008 after Air India moved its Delhi - Amritsar - Birmingham - Toronto service to London, even though demand at Birmingham had not been a problem, with load factors often more than 85%.
You can support the campaign by signing a petition and making a comment at flyindia.birminghamairport.co.uk, or becoming a fan of the Fly India facebook page at facebook.com/flyIndia.
