Bmibaby celebrate Birmingham – Newquay flights launch
12.05.09
Bmibaby has celebrated the launch of their new flight route between Birmingham and Newquay. The summer only flights, which started on Friday, will run until the end of September and are expected to carry more than 20,000 sun seekers down to the south coast for a summer break.
Crawford Rix, managing director for bmibaby, said: ‘The new route is great news for Birmingham. No longer will a trip to Newquay mean a 4½ hour trek down the M5. Now it’s merely a short flight lasting just over an hour from Birmingham Airport. The route is already proving popular and we expect to carry thousands of passengers in the summer.’
Paul Kehoe, chief executive officer at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘It is great news for the airport and passengers that this popular route has been reinstated. Newquay has traditionally meant a long car journey for Midlanders, but now with this direct service a long holiday or a short weekend break is within reach.’
