Birmingham Airport pier opened
24.10.09
Prince Edward was at Birmingham Airport yesterday to officially launch its International Pier. The £50 million project extends the airport and replaces the former construction, which was created in 1984. It was completed in 14 month and is the biggest investment in the airport since the late 1980s.
The three-storey construction is bright and modern and accommodates both departing and arriving passengers alongside airside and handling agents. Prince Edward said the Pier was ‘very impressive,' adding ‘I wish the airport the greatest of success in the future.’
The Prince, also the Duke of Kent, was following in the footsteps of Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who opened the airport's terminal in 1939.
