Birmingham Airport passengers down 7.2%
24.02.10
Passenger numbers at Birmingham Airport continued to fall in January. The airport handled 521,566 passengers through its two terminals, down 7.2% on last year. The figures would have been hit by the severe weather during the month, during which the airport and others across Europe were forced to close, but details of this have not been released.
Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s chief executive officer, said: ‘As expected 2010 has begun in much the same way as 2009 concluded. However, the year-on-year decrease in passenger numbers is still healthier than many other airports have reported, and I feel that the airport is better prepared for the turbulent economic conditions that will face us, as opposed to 12 months ago.’
