Birmingham Airport passengers down 4.8%

During September, Birmingham Airport handled 937,205 passengers through its two terminals, including 666,599 scheduled passengers and 270,606 charter passengers. This was 4.8% down on a year earlier, in the month when the airport officially celebrated its 70th anniversary and saw the opening of the new £45 million International Pier. Last month also saw the first visit of an A380 to Birmingham, the first commercial A380 service to operate into a regional UK airport - although only for one day.
During September significant growth was achieved on scheduled flights to destinations including Krakow (+118.9%), Arrecife (+91.1%), Hamburg (+81.8%), Larnaca (+80.8%), Alicante (+35.2%), Toulouse (+34.4%), Tenerife (+33.9%), Malaga (+27.9%), Hanover (+27.5%) and Prague (+27.3%). Charter flights that experienced growth included Egypt (+70.8%), Turkey (+39%) and Tunisia (+11.3%).
