19.06.09
A woman has been jailed for four years after attempting to smuggle £10,000 worth of cocaine into the UK via Birmingham Airport. Shounna Hines, 24, from Nottingham, was stopped at the airport by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers on January 4 after arriving on a flight from Jamaica.
Miss Hines, of Ford Street, Nottingham was sentenced to four years in jail after pleading guilty to illegally importing cocaine at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday. Sentencing her , Recorder Rachel Brand, said: ‘You were caught trying bring cocaine through Birmingham Airport. It is plain you must have been recruited by someone, the only point in your favour is that you had the good sense to plead guilty, albeit late. The sentence handed down by this court will serve as a deterrent to others contemplating this serious form of criminality.’
