Heavy snow closes Birmingham Airport

Passengers flying from Birmingham Airport have suffered delays yesterday after the runway was closed due to heavy snow. Nineteen flights were delayed and one to Dublin cancelled as parts of the Midlands saw 10cm (4in) of snow and the Met Office warned of severe weather across much of England.
The airport said it hoped to open first thing today, but there could be cancellations and has urged passengers to check with their airline. Drivers have been advised to take extra care on the roads as the snow freezes overnight in the West Midlands, South West and North West.
