Ryanair announce nine new Birmingham Airport flights; open new base

Ryanair announced nine new routes from Birmingham Airport, all taking off this October, as it launched its 25th European base at the hub yesterday.
As well as previously announced routes from the UK airport, the airline said it will start another nine routes from October. The new flights are to Alicante, Derry, Fuerteventura, Katowice, Kaunas, Krakow, Palma, Malaga and Murciar.
Ryanair's Bridget Dowling said that the opening of the airline's new base at Birmingham was a ‘double celebration’. She said: ‘We're celebrating the arrival of our first based aircraft here and we're also announcing a further nine new routes which go on sale today.'
Ryanair have said there was 'huge potential' for the airline to grow at Birmingham Airport. The airline hopes to be flying five million passengers a year in and out of the airport in five years' time, up from around 300,000 passengers this year.
Birmingham Airport’s business development director, Peter Vella said: ‘We are delighted to be officially unveiling Birmingham Airport as Ryanair’s 25th base, as well as welcoming the announcement of these further nine scheduled routes.'
‘These new services will offer passengers travelling from their local airport even greater choice and flexibility, allowing them to travel from within their region - whether that be for leisure or business.'
