Birmingham Airport top for on time performance
18.04.08
Birmingham Airport had the highest percentage of on time scheduled flights in the last quarter of 2007 of any major UK airport. Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) showed that 80 percent of scheduled flights operating out of Birmingham left on time, 3 percent higher than last year and 11 percent higher than the national average.
The average length of delay on scheduled flights fell by two minutes compared to the same period last year, and delays were four minutes shorter at Birmingham Airport compared to the national average.
The airport also performed well for its charter operations, with 74 percent of all flights operating on time, beaten only to the top spot by Newcastle Airport with 76 percent, and better than the national average of 66 percent. The airport suffered increasing delays in charter flights, seeing the average delay extend by one minute, but still five minutes shorter than the national average.
