December snow chaos cost Flybe £6m
14.05.11
Flybe has revealed last December's snow caused disruption to more than 100,000 of its passengers and cost it at least £6 million. In its submission to the Transport Select Committee's inquiry in to the snow chaos, Flybe said the airport closures led it to cancel 1980 of its 12,000 scheduled flights during the period. In comparison, during December the previous year it suffered just 273 cancellations.
In its submission Flybe said: ‘We would like to see closer working relationships between airports and their customers, airlines and handling agents in pre-planning for major weather disruption. There should also be an industry agreement of what 'open' means for an airport to manage the passengers' expectations for travel.'
