Birmingham Airport clear winner from high speed rail link

Transport secretary Lord Adonis has confirmed that a new high-speed rail link will be connected to Birmingham Airport. Heathrow will not be directly linked to the network, but a new interchange will be built providing a connection to the travel hub on the Heathrow Express.
Executives at Birmingham Airport welcomed the decision, saying that it will mean more passengers will using the hub. Paul Kehoe, the airport's chief executive officer, said: ‘We are uniquely positioned to not only claw back people from our own region, who make the long journey to Heathrow, but to attract passengers from the overheated south-east.'
